Travel Softball Options
Wisconsin Heights Youth Softball supports player development at all levels.
It's that time of year that travel softball team tryouts are starting. While we are a recreational program, we support players who are seeking a more competitive level of play in this sport as well.
When considering whether or not your player should try out for a travel ball team, we recommend you take the following in to consideration and ask lots of questions as each program is different:
- Travel teams are typically a year-round commitment, starting in August.
- There is often a team cost, and possible additional costs for uniforms or team gear.
- Some programs also provide hitting instruction and lessons beyond the team practice.
- Practice facilities in winter are often in indoor facilities. Ask where winter practices are held to ensure you can commit to the drive 1-2 times per week.
- Tryouts typically include coaches from a few different age groups and skill areas. Know which positions your player prefers and practice before your tryout. Many tryouts include tests for running, throwing speed, bat speed, etc. Prepare your player for those types of assessments.
- If your player is offered a spot, you typically have a short time frame to make a decision (48 hours is common). Consider asking what commitments are expected up front so you know cost, date conflicts or expectations and aren’t taken by surprise.
We've shared a post on Facebook, with links to specific area programs with tryouts. We'll add more as we become aware of them. For more information, visit this post: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16qFyGTmd3/
